Article of Michael Kuyucu named “RADIO LISTENING TENDENCY AND MUSIC GENRE PREFERENCES OF RADIO LISTENERS ISTANBUL EXAMPLE” about radio channel has been published in September 2016 issue of Asos Journal.
In that article, Michael Kuyucu giving importance to Radio and Music titled studies has researched position of music in radio broadcasting and place of radio in media consumption habits changing rapidly within these days.
In study, a survey has been conducted about radio listening tendency and consumption tendencies of radio listeners have been determined in Istanbul example by means of scanning model. In first part of study in which position of music in radio broadcasting has been tried to determined, a cognitive and historical research has been conducted about radio and findings of previous researches about radio broadcasting have been examined. In second part of the study, a survey questioning radio listening tendencies of 488 person has been made.
In consequence of the study, analysis about the channel following tendencies of radio listeners have been made and findings relating how radio listeners positioned the music and radio have been evaluated. As a result of the study, it has been determined that pop music in radio broadcasting has a higher listening ratio. While 30 years old and older radio listeners mostly preferring folk and Turkish Style (Alaturca) music genre, rock music preference has been shown to increase as the age decreases.
In addition to that, it has been determined in study that, pop music listeners have higher radio listening tendency than rock music listeners, and rock music listeners have higher radio listening tendency than arabesque music listeners.
