Media Goes into the Effort of Creating Perception

Michael Kuyucu asked Yaşar Hacısalihoğlu his opinion about the modern-day media. Hacısalihoğlu emphasized the significance of media by saying “In fact, media is a sum and synthesis of society. One should look through details of media, therefore advertisements, reporting news, news preferences are important. It’s in fact interest, habits, attitude, claims, voice and ears. Hence, this throws the book at media. Humanitarian and ethical should also be in on. Journalism is a very important area of responsibility. One should not use journalism for another purpose or another benefit in some dark equations. If so, that’s the moment when journalism identity is over. One should also see being sheltered behind that identity. We had and have that kind of troubles in Turkey from time to time.  We saw a crucial FETÖ (Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization) truth. We are in communication age, truths are extremely important at that age; but also are perceptions. It’s said what’s true is not important, what people believe is important. People want to get inspired from this. Then perception settles in front of the truth. Struggle to create perception steps in for showing nonexistent as existent or existent as nonexistent. Media is that much important in that point”.

Understanding of Freedom should have a Limit for Journalists

Michael Kuyucu referencing freedom of press concept discussed lately asked “Should freedom of journalists be limited?” question to Rector of Yeni Yüzyıl University Prof. Dr. Yaşar Hacısalioğlu. Answer of Hacısalioğlu was: “Understanding of freedom should have a limit for journalists. When content and title of a statement are different, purpose is immediately understood. You cannot say, I do this, I am journalist, I am free to do that. This transforms into an open attack to personality, rights, freedom of another person. There is no such freedom area. Journalists have responsibility for humanity. Aspects having news quality are certain. Columnists are not necessary if you put your opinion on headline. Opinions are open to share and very valuable; however if you reflect a manipulation with your opinion, this is not journalism.”
